TV Confession
I like watching TV. I know it’s not much the “done” thing these days. It seems like you’re supposed to spend quality time with your family, engage in a hobby or if you do prefer a “box addiction,” stay glued to your computer and the internet.
But I’m a TV kind of guy. I like sitting after dinner on my comfy couch within arm’s reach of Alice and my pet cat Rabbit nestled not too far away from me, unwinding in front of my favorite reality show or sitcom. Nothing demanding or time-consuming – I don’t have the attention span come evening-time to watch TV movies (I prefer them on the big screen anyway) and unless it’s something earth-shattering, I try to stay away from the news channels because I find the coverage is usually very depressing (a journalist friend of mine once corroborated this belief by telling me that “if it bleeds, it leads!”).
I have a standard line-up of favorites – American Idol, Ugly Betty, re-runs of Everybody Loves Raymond, 30 Rock and almost any program on NatGeo or the History Channel. I enjoy laughing together with Alice at the humor or exclaiming in awe or wonder at something special or applauding a great performance. Or sometimes, not saying anything at all but just sitting there being together. It’s a vastly underrated form of relaxation and makes for great bonding time for me and my girlfriend at the end of a tiring day.
